(sort of
winglets) are an other effective way to reduce leeway on a catamaran. There
advantage are, no moving parts, no increase of the draft of the craft. We use
them on our catamaran "Pelican". The article explains the theory how they
work. To down load article click on the picture
This program shows the righting moment as
graphic. Change the wind speed and see how the stability curve
changes. These programs are written in power-basic and run under DOS.
Hereby I give them free for downloading. Now you can check for your
self what you can expect from your multihull. These are all .EXE
files. Load them down on a diskette and you can run them direct
under DOS. You need the KDD text to understand the use of the programs. This is
a zip file.
DYNAMIC STABILITY PROGRAM
Shows the maximum speed of the boat at
different wind speeds in graphical form till 90 degree to the wind.
SPEED PREDICTION PROGRAM
With this program you can check the basic
(medium) speed, 24 hour distance sailed, wind pressure when a hull wants to
lift. You can compare 5 boats in one go. The results are shown in a
table.
QUICK PERFORMANCE CHECK
Many
cruising multihull owner are disappointed in their boats speed because of
excessive claims by clever sales people. Years ago, I wrote these programs for
my own design work, to predict the speed and calculate the stability
of multihulls ( special catamaran's ). They are probably unique in
their field and now available as free downloads. These programs are written in
Power-Basic and run under DOS. Now you can check for your self what
you can expect from your multihull. These are all .EXE files. Load
them down and you can run them direct under DOS. You need the KDD text to
make full use of the programs.
