The ECOnomy power catamaran is an affordable DIY power catamaran. A blend of old and new. The ECO's built till now have proven to be fun, economical and sea worthy. The layout is more or less the same as for the ECO sail version but the under water ship is changed. The cockpit is big for the boat, size of 1,45m x 2 m. A good place to lounge, fish or what ever. Despite his small size normal deck chairs can be used.
The accommodation is simple but practical.
Because of the easy driven hulls the boat will travel at about 12 to 15 knots with a 20 HP outboard engine, depending on load and sea conditions. Power setting at about ¾.
The boat has a double bunk, but the cockpit is big enough to sleep 2 more persons under a cockpit cover. For construction and list of materials see ECOnomy cruiser drawings. With the low weight of about 325 kg including engines the boat can be towed behind a relative small car.
Construction is as always the (ply)wood/ glass/Epoxy construction system. The hulls are V-shaped with vertical sides. Easy to build also by a beginner. For cost estimation load down the list of materials. Go to bill of materials.
